Kirdan Necklace
A solid silver "Kirdan" Necklace from upper Egypt. The Kirdan, this type of necklace, was an essential part of a bride's dowry. A Kirdan always has a large crescent as the centerpeice. The chain is made of an abundance of disc shaped dangles. The silver coin at the center is Maria Theresa and dated 1797 .It is usual for Bedouins to use foreign coins in their jewelry. The three beads in the crescent are missing.
